I was watching "Swamp People" this weekend. I'm not sure what it is that I love about this show so much, but I can't get enough of it. I think maybe I should have been born down south! I love the accents, the expressions, and just the simple life. I would absolutely love to live on a chain of inland lakes. When I watch the show I am so in awe of the beauty they are surrounded by. To me, there is nothing like waking up to the smell of a lake, hearing all the sounds that mother nature has to offer, and watching all the wild life. Just to be able to wake up to the sun rising over the lake, calm waters, birds chirping, and be able to cast a line into the water and watch the ripples slowly fade away...I don't know, its so peaceful. Speaking of peace, when you're at Church and they say, "Now offer each other a sign of peace.", do you think that's what they mean? I sure hope so!!!!
If you have never watched the show before, it's about a bunch of dudes that hunt Alligators!!!! Well, one girl, Liz, "Yeah, yeah, yeahhhhh...yeah, yeah, yeahhhh...that's looks like a good one right there Elizabethhh!!!" They set these bait lines on sticks and catch these BIG ASS GATORS!!! I'm talkin like 11-12 feet, 7-800lbs. For the most part there are 2 dudes in the boat, 1 dude grabs the line and slowly pulls the Beast to the surface and the other one blasts him with a rifle. The kill spot is like the size of a quarter!!!!! WHAT???? You have to watch it!!
In episode 5 they introduce these 2 Brothers, Glen and Mitch, and they are SWEEEEET!!!! Glen, is like the hick version of Chong!!! Mitch is a little more reserved and really doesn't know what to say in front of the camera! They both have these sweet ass beards and long hair. They must have asked them what they do all day and and they say, " Fish, hunt, and uhhh ride around....hahahahahahaha." These dudes LIVE OFF THE LAND! They decide that they are going to try to catch some Gar fish. They have to dig the worms to catch the bait fish, to catch the Gar fish! They have these 2 litre bottles painted red inside that they hang hooks from and put Perch on. They throw em in the lake in hopes of a Gar fish. Quick lil side note, my Brother, Kevin, gave my boy, Larry, some "Craw fish attractant" and told him it was cologne!!! LMAOOOO...poor Larry stunk soooooo bad!!!!! We called him "Perch" for a little while after that!!! Sorry, I got side tracked, I often do. I've never been diagnosed ADHD, but you never know!!! Anyway, they catch this Gar fish and Glen says, "We got us a Gar fish...FINALLYYYY, HUHHHAHAhahahaha!!! (just like Chong would sound)" They go home and make Gar patties and they are SOOOOOO happy!
After watching the episode, I started to think. These 2 dude have NOTHING!!! They definitely don't have a bunch of money, they live off the land, but yet they are happier than most the people I know. Why, and how can this be? They are content, they make each other happy. I think you have to have a partner, someone to grow old with, someone who shares the same dreams as you, someone that has the same sense of humor as you, and someone who compliments you! Life is supposed to be easy!!! It's the simple things that mean the most, the smiles, the laughter, the conversation, and the love! It is definitely NOT MONEY, money means NOTHING, it is a means to get you the material things you WANT, but without LOVE, you have NOTHING!
When I retire...I want to watch the sunset over the lake, on a swing on the porch with the one I love! Takin all the simple things in... go to sleep smiling and wake up smiling too!!! When I pass...I want a BBQ, and celebration for my life...THAT'S WHAT I WANT!!! I like people to smile and want to be remembered that way too! What makes you happy? Money or the simple things? To me it seems like the simple things are worth a HELL of a lot more!!!! I'm out, your boy JC!
