Isn't it funny how music can take you to a certain place, a certain time, or make you recall a memory? So I'm headed home from work today listening to Jack Johnson. Lately I've been listening to a lot of acoustic, upbeat, happy shit! I really dig acoustic music, actually I just LOVE music, ALL kinds! As soon as I wake up, bang, music goes on. I get in the car, boom, the music goes on...LOUD! I roll the windows down and try to take it all in, I don't care who's lookin or who's listening. I might sing some shit outta key, but if i'm feelin it, you better believe, I'm tryin to hit that note! Shit, I might even rewind it 3, 4 times tryin to get it right. You know what I'm talkin about, I mean, if it's your jam it's your jam! I definitely THINK I'm wayyyy sweeter than I am, but who don't? You see all them fools on American Idol, can't sing a lick and then cry...Whatttt? Sorry, I'm gettin way off track.
Anyway, I come home to a house full of kids. 4 kids, between the age of 4 and 7. Two if which are mine. I walk in, log on to I-Tunes turn it up as loud as it goes, make a half a pot of coffee, on go the Dickie's, V-neck, and Air Force Ones. The kids love Justin Bieber, so we got "Baby" crankin and all the kids start dancin. I'm like a little kid inside too, so now, I hook up a sweet dance mix and we are GETTIN DOWN! The one little dude who is 7 likes Michael Jackson, so I give him the sweet Michael leg kick and up on the toes! He tries to hit his Moon Walk and I tell him, "Take your shoes off dude." I show him how to do it and then tell him, "Now if you can Moon Walk, then you can Float!" So I show him how to float too!!! Now, I got the kids ALL FIRED UP! Into the Kitchen we go, I move the table , the chairs, and to Youtube we roll! So, I decide to give em a little breakin 101. I show em how to Knee Spin, Back Spin, and even a little foot work! Now, we need to crack a damn window, cuz it's gettin hot in, so hot in huuuur!
Now, I'm searchin OLD BREAKIN shit that my Uncle Brian turned us on to when we were little. Shit, we grew up in the burbs, but my Gram stayed in the city so we were up on some things that the kids on the block didn't even know about! We would bring these bad ass mix tapes home that my Uncle made, yeah that's right, I said TAPES. My Uncle Brian was damn near a legend on our block!
So as I'm going through songs, 2 songs I play, really took me back. I played "Smurf Rock" and on Youtube they show the album cover, so I take a picture and send it to my Uncle with a text that says, "Enlightening the kids." He almost immediately hits me up and we talk for probably 10 minutes which was real nice, because we definitely don't see each other enough since my Gram passed, MMMMMMMMHMM! that's what my Gram would say. I can so hear her in my head too! I miss her a lot! Then, I played "Let Me Clear My Throat", that shit, fast forwarded your boy right to clubbin it up, two fisted ALL WEEKEND. So I decide to post the link on Facebook with a message in tribute to my boy Horse, it said, "The line for Horse's house has extended all the way to 696..." We used to get ready for the club over there and just act the fool!!! Some nights we would come home from the club and BBQ til 4-5am. So I hit Craig up and tell him what I had going on tonight and he was like, "You sound fired up!!!" I said, "You have no idea dude, I was havin wayyyyy more fun than the kids, it was like gettin ready to tear the club up!!!" All these good memories from just 2 songs!!!
It's crazy how music can take you from so HIGH, to so LOW! Why is it that if you are depressed, you listen to depressing music? When you are flyin high, you listen to happy, upbeat music! It seems like it makes more sense to listen to shit that makes you happy ALL the time, right? Unless maybe the depressing shit you're listening to reminds you of someone that you miss or something, but then wouldn't it make more sense to just hit em up???? All I know is...I LOVE MUSIC!!! Have a great night, and don't forget to smile!!!! Your Boy JC
